Anatolian Sky brought together a programme of tailor-made and two-centre holidays to Madeira and Porto Santo, two of the islands in this beautiful Portuguese archipelago.
Anatolian Sky showcased Madeira, an island just 35 miles long and 13.5 miles wide that boasts a remarkably varied landscape. It is home to:
The island takes its name from the magnificent forest, with 'Madeira' meaning 'timber'. Its geographic location and unusual terrain combine to produce a warm, temperate climate all year round, with summer maximum temperatures of around 24C and mild winter temperatures of 18-22C. The seas benefit from the warm Gulf Stream, averaging 22C in summer and 18C in winter.
The standard of accommodation in Madeira is excellent, ranging from the world-famous Reid's Palace, the grande dame of the island, to Quinta-style manor-house hotels offering authentic character and charm, as well as seafront luxury hotels with wonderful spa facilities. There is plenty to do, from dolphin spotting off the coast to walking the levadas.
Porto Santo is the only other inhabited island in the archipelago. Once home to Christopher Columbus, it was actually discovered by Portuguese sailors before Madeira, and is well worth re-discovering today. Its main attraction is the beautiful, wide six-mile-long beach of golden sand, while its warm, dry climate makes it a perfect place to get away from everything and simply relax. It is also home to a world-class golf course designed by the renowned golfer Seve Ballesteros.
